Initial About Me

Hi there, I'm Mr.Chan.  I was born then raised in Toronto, Canada and now I am overseas teaching in an international school in Singapore. Although I always keep an effort to model and maintain high standards for fairness and equality in the classroom, I never really gave myself the time to consciously learn more about embedding issues of social justice into my classroom.

The IB uses the learner profile attributes to cover issues of social justice in a broad sense.  However, I am a believer that dialogue and education on key issues such as economic inequality, gender inequality and racial inequality can benefit the classrooms and communities in which we work.

In the next 12 months, as a professional goal, I would like to become more aware of what other educators are doing with their students to address some common social issues (and maybe those not so common issues as well).

"Calling all Educators of Colour!"

As an international school educator, I have often dreamt of organizing a group of coloured educators to share stories and experiences as well as supporting each other through issues that we often face.  Because I am based on the other side of the planet 10 months of the year, I rely on social networking apps to connect me with like-minded educators.  Are you guys on Twitter?
